British automaker has applied for registration of two new brands: Q-Type and QJ. This event gives hopes to see the new Jaguar all-wheel drive models in the coming years.
Since Jaguar models XJ and XF already have modifications with drive for both axles, it was a completely new segment for the brand: mid-sized SUV or crossover and full-sized SUV for off-road. If Jaguar really hit the market with two fresh models, the first brand Q-Type is likely belongs to the vehicle of crossovers type, and the second QJ - the full-sized SUV. Both off-roaders must borrow the basic units (transmission, engine, suspension) from corresponding models of the brand Land Rover, which, in fact, is in one alliance - Jaguar Land Rover LTD.
All-wheel-drive Jaguar 2014-2015 of lower class can take most features from RR Evoque, releasing a three-door and five-door model. Both with a sloping roof, but with more powerful engines.
For example, a smaller model, the crossover Jaguar Q-Type, can be based on the platform of Range Rover Evoque, while the eldest, Jaguar SUV QJ, - on the platform of the largest Range Rover or its sports version - RR Sport.
Full-sized Range Rover is ready for strong off-road. Its sporty version of Range Rover Sport is ready too, but has a greater tendency to asphalt. But Jaguar has two ways of orientation for its possible SUV: Jaguar QJ may be even closer to the flat roads, creating internal competition for Supercharged version of the RR Sport model and the german model - BMW X5 M. Another way is to save the donor's off-road capability, confining by most powerful engine V8.
Such step can give a good breakthrough in the development of the brand. A good example is the production of the SUV from the German brand Porsche. Porsche Cayenne has more than half sales of the company's lineup now. Proven platform for both cars Jaguar is already there. But will the company fit it to its models, add right visuality and properly present the car? Also maybe the registration of trade marks Q-Type and QJ does not have anything to do with the release of new models... Nearest AutoShows of 2014-2015 year and presented on them Jaguar concepts should clarify the situation.
